This report might interest those who feel like exploring a new and relatively little-known corner of the Western Palearctic: the steppes north of the Caspian Sea. In fairness, most of these species, and some more steppe birds, may be encountered with more ease in Kazakhstan, but thought it was worth putting on the map, as a rather enchanting and lost-in-time region where wolves still wander the steppe farms at night and white-tailed eagles nest beside the roads.
The report (attached this time to the thread) also details the following WP target species and where they can be seen in the region including:
- white-winged lark (winter only)
- demoiselle crane
- steppe eagle
- black vulture
- black-winged pratincole
- menetries's warbler
- red-headed bunting
- caspian stonechat
- oriental skylark (breeding much farther W than maps suggest)
- bimaculated lark
