Falcon and Shrike Pakistan (1 Viewer)

Himalaya

Well-known member
The falcon was sighted at Deosai National Park in the north on 18-10-18

Is it an Amur Falcon? o far just the 2 images.

The Shrike was taken last week in Karachi - bill, supercilium, head, upper body colour appear correct for Brown Shrike?

Thanks in advance!!

The falcon looks like a juvenile Eurasian Hobby - too heavily-streaked for Amur for a start - but I agree with Brown Shrike.

To me the left (1st) bird has the look of juvenile Red-footed Falcon. I'd say it is a different bird than the right-hand falcon. But I believe these are very rarely recorded in Pakistan. I'm not familiar with amurensis myself but guess it could be a candidate!

Thanks.....wishful thinking it was......

Amur Falcon has been recorded once in Pakistan - a satellite tagged bird passed through on the way to Africa but obviously this species is just under recorded there.

Red Footed Falcon has been recorded once I believe, over 100 years ago.

The Brown Shrike is Pakistan's 3rd record - the first 2 last year. It was at Karachi Zoo. Don't look down at Zoos!
