taken on 9.7.18 at Yellowstone
2 shots of the same J bird
wingtip do not project beyond tail
no sharp contranst on side of head
is it a Tree young or a Violet green young bird

Northern Rough-winged Swallow for me, too. Note this bird's more blended and diffuse brown tones, especially on the face, and the light brown wash on upper chest just visible in the first photo. I think of Bank Swallow (Sand Martin) as having crisp borders between brown and white, as well as being a colder brown overall.
