Best winter foods for finches, tits, cardinals, thrushes, sparrows

Putting up feeders in a Northeast backyard for winter and would like to focus on small birds such as finches, tits, thrushes, sparrows and cardinals.

If I had to choose 2-3 foods to focus on for a wide variety of small birds + cardinals, which foods would you suggest?

I'd go with sunflower seeds; cardinals and finches love them. Consider shelled, as there'll be a lot less mess.
