Trogons - Taman Negara, Malaysia

Hi,

I'm looking for conformation/identification of these two trogons seen at Taman Negara last August.

Is the first a Cinnamon-rumped and the second Diard's?

Thanks in advance.

Mark

Hi Mark,

my suggestions:
#1: female Scarlet-rumped Trogon (Harpactes duvaucelii)
Not sure about the 2nd bird, could´nt it be a fem. Red-headed Trogon too?

My guesses would be #1 Scarlet Rumped female and #2 an immature male Diard's (missing the red rump of the Scarlet -Rumped).

As what the others have said. The best way to distinguish between some (probably younger) females of the Scarlet-Rumped and Cinnamon-Rumped Trogon is to look at the face. The female Cinnamon has rufous patches on the cheeks that the female Scarlet-Rumped (of all ages) lacks.
