Dear birders,

Saw it in New York.Is this a cooper hawk or Sharp-shined hawk?

It looks like a Sharp-shinned to me. Tail on the short side for an accipiter, and the tail feathers look equal length. Heavy underside streaking. Head does not look too big. I'd sure feel better if the wings were pushed forward at the wrist, but you can't have everything ...
 
I'd go with a juv male Cooper's, due to the straight leading edge to the wing, the large and projecting head, the tawny hood, the clean streaking below with no side barring, and the short outermost tail feather.
