Not quite sure of the point of this thread - isn't that what the gallery is for??

(Saying that some cracking shots posted ( ;) ) and half tempted to post a few myself ... )

Don't see the point of the gallery when it limits you to three posts in a 24hr period.

Some really great shots so far! I think Paul's Monty's shot is eggcellent!, Andy hits peak with Snowcap, and John's Western Tanager with Jefferson's Eastern Bluebird...are all up there.

Here are some of my best US shots all taken with Lumix FZ1000, a flyweight bridge. Yellow-rumped Warbler, White-breasted Nuthatch, Yellow Warbler, Imm. Anna's Hummingbird and Red-bellied Woodpecker.

Lovely stuff Paul and I get that you enjoy the action shots but forest birds don't lend themselves to these types of shots often!

Possibly, but I never dip into it whereas I will follow a thread and join in a conversation like this. :t:

Agree with this... often I wanted to post more than 3 photos and couldn't. I'm loving your shots you are sharing!

Thanks,
I think if the site owner (Steve) were here, he'd mention bandwidth as the issue in limiting the number of shots, perhaps one of the mods can comment?

People can always include more of their shots in the reports section as well.

Uganda / Rwanda,
sorry about the last shot, I just like it!

The three photos per day is so that any one person doesn't hog the gallery; I reckon that's reasonable. Just spread your pics out over a few days. The size restrictions though are more of a nuisance, and very outdated given how cheap bandwidth is now. The max 1024 pixels width or 900 pixels height, and 500 kilobytes, are tiny by modern standards, and very restrictive on showing high resolution detail. Compare this with e.g. Wikimedia Commons, where you can post photos up to 100 megabytes. The one place you can post larger pics on Birdforum is the Opus direct upload where there's no size restriction specified - I've put a few of my photos there and had no problem uploading pics around 5 megabytes in size and 4000 pixels wide, 3000 pixels high.

There was a member-led discussion on the forum some years ago. Most of the members were asking for 1-2 images per 24 hours.

I've a feeling Admin may have thought that too restrictive and set it at 3.

It really was to avoid a lot of new images from one member pushing other pictures off the front page before most people had had a chance to look at them.

If you feel the time has come for a change, there is no reason not to start a new discussion in the Sight Notice Board.

I doubt such things need a point other than to solicit other people's enjoyment or interest. Lets see some photos Dan!!

I would have thought that the distinguishing features of this thread in any event are the opportunity to group the photos with the discussion. Discuss what people like etc. Interestingly on Twitter, I got some unexpected likes on some classic profiles etc but little response to one of my favourite photos which was a bunch of Abdim's Storks feeding amongst burning grassland. We are talking single or double figure likes here obviously.

On that occasion, unusually for me, on the profiles, I was seated and stable with the opportunity for high shutter speed and low ISO.

Some of my favourite photos are rubbish quality and more about the bird/occasion.

One for KenM which I repeatedly drag out from 30 years ago now:-

I'll post attachments later.

Interestingly Paul, that’s the only shot that I have of the Naumann’s!..and obviously a copy from the screen. My one big regret is not having a camera at the time for that and the OBP.

FWIW for me a good shot is not necessarily the pixel value but the specimen, posture and most important of all the lighting, which often creates the mood.

Cheers

I can't pick a favourite and I won't even attempt an adjective!

(I note that you had to add 'from across the globe' unless we assumed Essex suppression had awoken from its slumbers. :king:)
