How do I protect baby birds from air predators? (1 Viewer)

I recently moved into a new house. In the backyard is a small birdhouse hanginger from a tree limb. I've read that other birds can eat the baby birds from the nest. How can I protect the baby birds from other birds in my nesting box? The birds look like they might be finche, sparrows, or another small bird type. They do love the perch that's attached.

I know it's hard. There is nothing you can or should do. Nature is raw sometimes but nature nonetheless. Besides, if you go too near the birdhouse, the parents may desert the nest and the babies would die that way. Just remember that all birds have babies and all birds need to feed their babies. Even hawks and other large birds.

Hi Precious and a warm welcome to you from those of us on staff here at BirdForum :t:

Thanks for your reply.

If I only put out finch feeders, will the bigger birds still show? I wanted to put out a bird bath for my little family for them to bathe as well.

Both are good ideas but realize that if a bird is hungry or trying to feed babies they'll find a way to get at the feeders and it would be good of you to help all the birds that way. ;) I've got 3 bird baths going in my yard ;)
