Hello everyone,
There are some discussions about this bird.
It has been seen in the south of Israel, among some House Sparrows, behaving very confident. The observer told me it was a little tinier, but not as tiny as the Dead Sea Sparrows he had seen in his life.
When I saw the pictures my first impression tells me that it hasn't the jizz of House Sparrow. It is very compact, has a little round head and a proportionally tiny beak.
The bird is also very pale (but I heard that there are very pale House Sparrows), has a pale/light throat too. And I know that there are pale House Sparrows in the middle east but, take a look at their body structure and their bills :
A nominate Passer domesticus taken in Israel
A ssp biblicus taken is Israel too
It seems to me impossible that regardless of the rest of the bird, if you only watch the beak size, that it can be a Passer domesticus.
I'm not 100% sure about my identification, because I've no experience with Dead Sea Sparrows, but there are persons saying it's a H. Sparrow, others saying it's a DSS. An argument about the fact that it could not be a DSS is that this species is colonial and hanging around with other DSS ; and wouldn't as here be hanging around with House Sparrows and be so confident with humans.
What do you guys think ?
