Hi all, we've been visited for the last year by a beautiful black and white bird which we think is maybe a feral/homing/racing pigeon. (we've named Henry).

However, this last week we noticed that he looks as if he's been attacked as there are no feathers on his head - looks a bit like a turkey head. He's also not as tame as he has been. We don't think it would have been a cat as I'm sure he wouldn't have got away. Anyone got any ideas??

Not much I'm afraid. But here's some ideas.
Firstly, has it got a numbered or lettered ring around it's leg. If so then you may be able to trace it's owners.
Catch it and take it to a bird hospital, if one is near to hand. The head baldness sounds like a serious condition so wear disposable gloves as a precaution.
Just keep on feeding and providing fresh drinking water in the hope it will recover and fly off

Sounds like a head full of lice or just going through a molt

No ring or number at all - so can't contact anyone. Just worrying seeing him like that

Didn't realise birds moulted this late in the year so hopefully it may be just that. Don't suppose other birds would peck at its head?? Anyway thanks for advice
