bird feeder problem (1 Viewer)

I have a very nice square feeder whose roof lifts up for filling on a central cord. The problem is that this central cord is nylon, goes through the roof and ties to a central point on the bottom of the interior. Rain follows this cord causing spoilage of the seed. This would make a fine fair weather feeder, but it rains frequently in the winter where I live. Any ideas on how I can stop this problem?
