Wolf to dog (1 Viewer)

I didn't see any mention in the article about Jackals. As I understand it, the Golden Jackal is very closely related to the Wolf and I'm surprised this Middle-Eastern/South Asian Animal has not been considered as a contender for the origin of at least some breeds....

Konrad Lorenz famously was convinced that the jackal played an important role in the origin of most dogs, and he wasn't the only one.

There's been a lot of DNA testing that appears to rule out that option. So now it's all about trying to make connections between various groups of dogs and populations of wolves in the wild to try and see whether it's possible to work out what happened where. There's a Wikipedia article that looks like a decent introduction.

The Wikipedia article's a good one--thanks for the link. I note that descent from an extinct subspecies of wolf is still in the running
