Yes, I think I can relate to those aspects quite well.

I must confess that I am not a great recorder of common stuff even at my local patch (unless it flies overhead!) although I try to make an effort to report all "interesting birds". The added benefit of reporting these is that other birders (who may be more into "day-listing" than me) get attracted and may give an idea of the common birds...

There is a subtlety about the title that I hope you guys haven't missed: it is clearly derived from the Rolling Stones's Sympathy for the Devil - I hope it isn't intended to indicate the author's true sympathy or otherwise.....
