swift | Mount Takao, Tokyo | march 3 (1 Viewer)

Well-known member
walking up Mount Takao, Tokyo on my first full day in Japan this year I didn't expect swift just yet...certainly not at 8 in the morning on a crisp spring day.
I managed to take a few shots only, while my camera and i were not working together smoothly.
I think it's likely to be House Swift

Based on these poor shots, what would you make of it?
3 Species to choose from I would think
House Swift (Apus nipalensis)
Pacific Swift (Apus pacificus)
White-throated Needletail (Hirundapus caudacutus)

description
Dumpy looking swift with rounded wingtips, broad white rump, white throat.
I understand that House Swift has established itself in lowland Japan from the mid sixties and are year-round in some parts of the country. That would explain a sighting in early march.

What would you say?
hope to hear from you

cheers,
Gerben

House Swift - tail forked, but only a very shallow fork. Pacific is more deeply forked, Needletail not forked at all but with bristle-tips to each tail feather.

House Swift is mapped as resident, non-migratory, in my books.
