Baby blackbirds (1 Viewer)

A cat has killed a male blackbird that was very tame and used to hop round me as i worked in the garden. He was taking food each day to a nest in the hedge and I am now worried that his mate will continue his work and be feeding the babies. Any suggestions?

Hi Valmugg and a warm welcome to you from all the Staff and Moderators.

It's possible that she will. The best action you can take is to support her by providing some high energy feed that she can eat herself before going off to look for insects for the young ones. Sunflower hearts and mealworms are particularly popular. Though I'm sure others will have more ideas for you too.

Maybe if you post in the Garden Birds forum you will get some more help. There's also a useful Sticky there giving advice on how to protect your birds from cats.

I'm sure you will enjoy it here and I look forward to hearing your news.

Hi and welcome to the forum. I think Delia gave some good advice.

Hi Valmugg and welcome aboard! Fingers crossed for the Blackbird and her family and keep us posted please ;)
