Robin with growth near eye (1 Viewer)

Hello everyone

I discovered this forum today and wonder if anybody can help answer this question. I have a pair of Robins who live in my garden. They raised a clutch of three babies last spring and I think they are back again this year.

I was working in the garden today and they were hovering closeby picking up the grubs that were being unearthed.

One of them had what appeared to be a growth by the side of its eye. I managed to take a close-up photograph and on closer inspection it looks like a hole! :eek!:

I’ve attached a photograph and wonder if anyone knows what it is? Is this a disease that is common in Robins? It seems to be eating and behaving normally.

Many thanks!

Hi Gulliver and a warm welcome to you from all the Staff and Moderators.

I'm so sorry I can't help, I've no idea what this is.

I'm just wondering if you can find a local wildlife rehab centre, or even a vet, that you could email the picture to, to see what they can suggest. Hopefully someone else may have some ideas for you.

I'm sure you will enjoy it here and I look forward to hearing your news.

Hi Gulliver, welcome to the forum. Sorry, I can’t suggest more than what Delia did. Good luck.

Hi Gulliver and welcome aboard!

Perhaps you could send this image to your local wildlife assoc and they can give you an answer. Good luck.
