Hello From Montana

Hello my name is ted and I live in Helena, MT. I am very new to birding and I'm just starting to purchase my photography equipment. I just purchased a Nikon D200 with a 18-200mm VR lens. I know this is too short for birding and I'm looking for recommendations for a longer birding lens for this DSLR. I have a limited budget as most and any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Ted and welcome on behalf of all the staff and moderators at Bird Forum, you'll get lots of help with your lens choice in the
Photography forum if you post your question there.

I'll look forward to seeing some of your pictures in the Gallery before too long

hi from across the pond. If you want cheap photography try digiscoping. combining a cheap digital camera and telescope. the results can be pretty impressive. Lots of info on this type of photography here and elsewhere on the net

Cheers
