The one thing we haven’t got – a pub

Dear all,
No community – cyber or real – can live without one.

As I drained my glass of Chilean Merlot (courtesy B&B) it dawned on me that this community needs a convivial meeting place in which, for example, to meet new members.

How about the Puff Inn?

Suggestions welcome.

Yours in anticipation,
Gordon Boreham-Styffe.

When I get to the Puff Inn, I'll order a double of Wild Turkey(popular here in the States).

Definate regular, especially if it's a real ale pub. You could say it's a HOBBY of mine

Sounds like an invite fom IanF. I'll have an "Old Speckled Hen". Actually the best "flying beer" is Spitfire - no feathers involved here though.

Andrew: most people only think they can sing when they're as high as a KITE. In fact it will send everyone RAVEN mad.

Well as I saunter up to the bar RAIL and ask for a wild Turkey on the rocks, I've been listening to the patron next to me Hawk his wares, who incidentally seems Cuckoo.

Hi chaps and chappesses,

As the new member who really enjoyed buying you all a cyber drink the night before last and yesterday afternoon (it was a long night!) in my Hello Everybody Thread, I think Smeltmill's idea is spot on. The range of drinks available at the bar needs to be extended as not everybody wanted guinness. KC for example wanted a VO with twist of lemon, Beverley a Black and Tan and malt whisky was also popular. It was the best party I've been to for a long while! How about The Twitcher's Arms ? The Drunken Dunlin? The Happy Hide? The Boozy Birder?

Good morning.

Now, hold on chaps! It got rather out of hand last night – you all rushed in and we hadn’t even got a License! It was meant to be a discussion of the viability. Fortunately I was able to swing this overnight and we are now legal. But it was a good party.

We can now get on with the business, and appoint our Licensee.
We need someone colouful, with wit, with a good grasp of bird-watcher psychology, and with the personality to keep control without causing offence. Merops Apiaster?

I propose Nina.

If this is seconded, I will invite her formally.

Your from the Bench – G B-S

Dear Mr Harper,
Many thanks for seconding the motion – I will now contact Nina.

Dear Swift
Is your first name Jonathan? Lock in at the discretion of the Licensee.

Yours etc.

Dear Nina

‘Dost thou think, because thou art virtuous, that there shall be no more cakes and ale?’

You have all the qualifications (as a delightful B-eater) to be the licensee. Would you be prepared to undertake this? I believe it could prove quite a profitable enterprise and your customers would be, in the main, entertaining and discerning. For myself, I should be delighted to see you in charge.

If the clientele became too vociferous you might consider Crabbe’s comment –

‘Lo! The poor toper whose untutored sense
Sees bliss in ale, and can with wine dispense,
Whose head proud fancy never taught to steer
Beyond the muddied ecstasies of beer.’

Yours from the wine cellar,
Gordon Boreham-Styffe

PS The ‘Bird in Hand’ has excellent historical credentials further south.
