"Popular" misspelt bird names (1 Viewer)

I wonder if this has been covered previously?

Anyway, thought I would start with a short list of regularly misspelt birds:

Griffin Vuture (Griffon Vulture) - this one is often spoken like this too.

Pomerine Skua (Pomarine Skua)

Dessert Wheatear/Warbler (Desert)

Ring Ousel (Ring Ouzel)

Winchat (Whinchat)

Audoin's Gull (Audouin's Gull)

Teminck's Stint (Temminck's Stint)

Widgeon (Wigeon)

I'm sure there are more but I cannot remember them at the moment. I suppose I must be bored to start this up!

I suppose it doesn't bother me too much, or at least I have learnt for it not to bother me !

Shoveler (post #2) is the preferred American spelling, with Shoveller also correct but "chiefly Brit".

"Stellar's" Jay has got to be the commonest misspelling of any bird on the US list.

Leach's (or Leache's) Petrol
Guillemet
Golden Eye (ok, not a spelling mistake but just as bad)
Sisken

I'm into my words (play scrabble as another hobby) so it gets to me a bit, just think its demeans the birds!
