I have had Red legged partidges breeding in my garden ever since I moved here; they are the bright ones, as there is a shoot nearby, and I am not naive, so know where the original stock and replenishments come from.
Yesterday there was a partridge that had a clean, cream bib, rather than whitish to black and spotty, and a very distinct crisp black eye stripe with possibly a hint, no more than a millimetre of white / cream above it. The eye was set in the stripe.
As it was in a group of six (5 definite RL, and game birds have been released recently) my genuine first thought was 'that is not right for a RL Partridge', followed by do shoots ever release Chukars, in the way they sometimes release a few ornamental pheasants?
I am happy if its a RL but disappointed if exotics are being used.
Unless there is an established population in Norfolk, of which I have seen no information.
Any comments welcomed
Thanks
Harry
