In the attempt to distinguish between a Leaden Flycatcher & Satin Flycatcher, I came across the following description & accompanying photos, which seems to accurately describe a field mark which is missed by most guides.
"Unfortunately, the illustrations of the males in all the field guides are inaccurate. They show the line of demarcation on the breast the same for both Leadens and Satins which is wrong - one curves upwards and the other downwards and this character alone constitutes the best field mark." The Satin breast demarcation for the male clearly curves down, whereas the Leaden curves up.

Kerrie,

I have read this too, but unless I've got a book and /or made a note, for the life of me, I can never remember which is which !

Just going from memory (books not at hand), but don't the two - Satin / Leaden - also have distinctly different calls ?
