Bit of a weird and somewhat frustrating, day today when I hitched a lift with some visiting British birders. Failed to get almost all of the targets (Siberian Jay, Pygmy Owl, Great Grey Owl, Pine Grosbeak) but ended up getting a few nice, non-target species.

117. Red Crossbill

Hopefully more owls tomorrow

Although birding has been a bit slow lately, I did manage to find three new species this morning.

75. Brown-headed Cowbird
76. Cackling Goose
77. Redhead

This evening I went out owling. Surprisingly, I found my main target within about ten minutes, getting great looks in my spotlight.

78. Eastern Screech Owl

Today was a goose day with these two that were new for the year list

124. Pink-footed Goose
125. Greater White-fronted Goose

Pink-foot is a rare, but increasing, species in this part of Sweden. Still, I should not be seeing a single goose species in mid-February, let alone a 5-species flock of 100 individuals! The lack of a proper winter here continues...

February so far. All in and around Paderborn:
31 White Stork
32 Dunnock
33 Common Chaffinch
34 Peregrine Falcon
35 Green Woodpecker

Well, Andy, if it makes you feel any better (and I do hope you are feeling better), 24 of your “only” 30 sightings would be Lifers for me!

Get well soon!

Thanks very much Rogue Birder! I'm sure the opposite is also true. I have a very short US list which includes Hawaii (93) Canada is better, but not great (177), with many duplicated.

Well, I guess I'll play along. Haven't had much time to get out this year, and not doing any serious listing - 2017 was an Ohio Big Year for me, and now work just seems to get in the way. I have made one trip this year (Texas - thanks, work!), otherwise it has just been Ohio with a little dabbling in Indiana.
