Late afternoon: Ad Y-L Gull dropped in briefly with 14 LBBG and 12 HG, Tuftie-95, Mallard-44, Pochard-23, Shoveler- 7, Goosander- 77, Gadwall- 10. 2 Little Egret came in to roost at last light, 5 Cormorant roosted, party of 59 R-N Parakeets went to roost. Re. the Cormorants, All “our” birds and a few others went down river from c1530 onwards, presumably roosting at Brookvale / Witton Lakes? The roosting birds came in later per Matt Hadlington

The month gave us 91 species with three being new for the year with 3 Waxwings being seen to fly into the valley on the 19th other waxwing sightings being 3+ birds in Dartmouth park on the 25th and 6+ birds just outside the recording area on Sandwell Road on the 26th, an Adult male Marsh Harrier flew through on the 22nd and a Black Tailed Godwit was on the island briefly on the 26th, 80 Cormorant on the 2nd was a new Valley record there could have been up to100 birds but hard to keeps tabs on them with fading light, 271 Carrion Crow on the 20th was also a new valley record and 70 Siskin towards the end of the month was also a new record, also of note :- 2 possibly 3 different Adult Common Gull one of them being the ringed bird and a second winter bird on the last day of the month, Great White Egret flew from Dartmouth park on the 9th, 3 Little Egret on Forge Mill, Raven seen several times, a female Brambling under the feeders for one day,Tawny Owl was seen, a pair of Goldeneye on Forge Mill and 3 female mid month, the Mediterranean Gull was back with us on the 12th, a late Chiffchaff was seen on the 17th at Forge Mill and different bird on the 21st near the Pet Cemetery, 4 Mandarin (1 male) on Forge Mill and a female on Ice House at the end of the month the female Pintail was still about and an Adult and Juv Peregrine where seen, an Adult Yellow Legged Gull on swan pool and Forge Mill on the 22nd and again on the 30th, a Woodcock flew from the small pool in the Paddocks, the Barn Owl was seen again and a Shelduck on the 27th, best counts being :- 287 Black Headed Gull, 185 Coot, 122 Mallard, 100+ Ring Necked Parakeets, 95 Tufted Duck, 77 Goosander, 70+ Chaffinch in the Valley, 50+ Goldfinch, 40+ Starlings, 30 Pochard, 30 Snipe, 28 House Sparrow, 24 Wigeon, 18 Long Tailed tit, 17 Wigeon, 15 Gadwall, 14 Little Grebe, 12 Lapwing, 7 Collared Dove, 6 Mistle Thrush, 3+ Water Rail, 2 Jack Snipe and 2 Greylag

Ice House best for wild fowl this am. Goosander x3 wigeon x8 Gadwall x4 little grebe mallards tufties. Swan pool 1 pair wigeon and single male Golden eye. Fml 8 Goosander 12 pochard 1pair teal gcgrebe little grebe cormorant ringed common gull and 2 shovellers in the marsh per Richard Baker
