Greetings from Kenai Lake (100 Miles South of Anchorage, Alaska)...
Saturday, on the day before Spring officially started, a bit of birding was had on a beautiful sunny day road trip to the cabin. The day started off with the sounds of the Redpoll horde, Red Breasted Nuthatches, and a WoodPecker whacking away at a tree somewhere in the neighborhood.
Shortly after, on the trip down to the cabin from Anchorage a handful of Ravens were seen along the highway.
Off the highway, heading back into the cabin while crossing over Quartz Creek, several Common Mergansers were seen in the morning. A few Magpies crossing the road. At the cabin on Kenai Lake, for most of the afternoon, a half dozen Swans (adults and young) worked the shoreline in front of the cabin, with four Bufflehead ducks (1 male, 3 females). Later in the afternoon, back over at Quartz Creek, a pair of Mallard ducks enjoying a sunny afternoon on were spotted.
A nice day...with Spring seemingly just around the corner... Happy Trails, Mike
