all the gear and no idea
a really great place - not affiliated with any conservation group, so no visitor centre or parking provided or anything, its just a filled in gravel quarry. completely reclaimed by nature, thus its a genuinely peacefull and serene place to be.
if your just casual its a nice enough walk around the water with woodland, paddocks, farm fields, plus the river thames is right there as well so you can walk along that too. plenty of waterfowl and gulls and at the right time of year the amount of swallows and martins coming up off the thames is genuinly impressive. there are 3 pubs in the immediate area, all very good and marlow town a mile or two to the west is a charming town with all the pubs and fooderies you could ever want
if your more dedicated, there is a an excellent area for your scope known as the 'bench' (can you guess why?) and just further along the 'point' which looks directly onto a very decent sandy spit area, good for waders, etc. this is where most of the patch birders go, and each of them ive met have been a very nice bunch and keen to share.
Plenty of red kites down this way, kingfishers regular, tree creppers etc etc. and a decent flow of rarities and interesting stopovers
this blog (not mine) is a very usefull blog for keeping in toch with whats coming and going on the gravel pits: http://littlemarlowgp.blogspot.co.uk/
