The updated (to December 2011) Channel Islands bird list is now available. The new list includes an island by island checklist at the end and shows a new total of 369 species: 326 in Jersey; 324 in Guernsey; 283 in Alderney; 226 in Sark. There were two new species added to the list in 2011: pallid harrier in Jersey and olive-backed pipit in Guernsey. Black-headed wagtail was also recorded for the first time and was seen in Jersey and Guernsey. There were several further firsts for a single island: short-toed eagle, buff-breasted sandpiper and solitary sandpiper (all Jersey) and one new breeding species (firecrest in Jersey). Common buzzard bred in Guernsey for the first time.
