Another question: I have a 4-DVD set of David Attenborough's classic BBC series 'The Life of Birds,' in PAL format.
The video quality of the DVD set is disappointing—overcompressed, with visible artifacting and low contrast—and the result is certainly anything but high-definition. As a result the show looks no better than the VHS tapes I originally saw it on.
Do you know: Has 'The Life of Birds' been issued in any other, higher-quality format—streaming, Blu-Ray, you name it—since I bought these DVDs, perhaps nearly 15 years ago?
'The Life of Birds' really is a marvel, and seen remastered, uncompressed, in full high definition, in all its glory—it would be worth taking several days simply to binge on and savor.
