American Black Ducks? - Eastern Ontario, Canada (1 Viewer)

Shot a few days ago in eastern Ontario, Canada I'm sure the birds swimming are common mergansers, but not sure that the ducks on ice are American Black Ducks. Can someone confirm or correct that?

I understand that the bird which, in the UK is known as the Goosander, is in fact the same bird that, in the USA, is known as the Common merganser.

Yes + no! Same species but different sub-species!

That's very interesting to know. I wonder if there is any documented information about the differences between the 2 sub-species?
