Raptor, central Texas (1 Viewer)

The raptor was flying (actually gliding along) very high and heading south. These were the best shots we got with a 400mm lens.

I'm thinking it may be one of the falcon species.

TIA

Surely a Buteo Sp?

Thanks, Jon.

We had considered a buteo until we got the photos on the computer, but now after a second look, I do think you’re right and it’s probably a juvenile Swainson’s Hawk, which are presently migrating south through Texas.

Thanks Joe & Bob. I was beginning to consider that ID, too, but we usually see them in larger numbers during migration.
