Went for a walk this morning into Hågadalen-Nåsten on the outskirts of Uppsala to look for the Great Grey Owl that is in residence. Missed my target, but I did end up with a nice surprise in the form of a couple of singing Pygmy Owls, one of which I saw very well.

102. Eurasian Pygmy Owl
103. European Crested Tit
104. Willow Tit
105. European Green Woodpecker
106. Brambling

Odd cold and warm weather has turned our neighborhood streets into ice, so have not got very far out of the house for a week. Only three to add.
38 Bald Eagle Pawnee Lake
39 Lapland Longspur
40 Snow Bunting (the very same bird I had in Nov)

still missing horned lark and shrike for the entire winter (I had them in early Jan 2019)

Went to the eastern panhandle of West Virginia today to try to find some birds that will be common in my part of the state in a couple of months, but are mostly absent now. Gale-force winds made birding almost impossible, so I didn’t find most of my targets. However, I did find a couple of regional rarities.

73. Mute Swan
74. Long-tailed Duck

Bit of a weird and somewhat frustrating, day today when I hitched a lift with some visiting British birders. Failed to get almost all of the targets (Siberian Jay, Pygmy Owl, Great Grey Owl, Pine Grosbeak) but ended up getting a few nice, non-target species.

115. Whooper Swan
116. White-tailed Eagle
117. Red Crossbill
118. Grey-headed Woodpecker
119. Golden Eagle
120. Ural Owl

Hopefully more owls tomorrow

Well, Andy, if it makes you feel any better (and I do hope you are feeling better), 24 of your “only” 30 sightings would be Lifers for me!

Today was a goose day with these two that were new for the year list

124. Pink-footed Goose
125. Greater White-fronted Goose

Pink-foot is a rare, but increasing, species in this part of Sweden. Still, I should not be seeing a single goose species in mid-February, let alone a 5-species flock of 100 individuals! The lack of a proper winter here continues...

Thanks very much Rogue Birder! I'm sure the opposite is also true. I have a very short US list which includes Hawaii (93) Canada is better, but not great (177), with many duplicated.
