Shot yesterday in Eastern Ontario, Canada, I think this is an American Tree Sparrow. Can someone confirm or correct that?

Yes, American Tree Sparrow. The rusty cap combined with the bicolored bill is diagnostic. The small dark spot on an otherwise unstreaked breast is another good field mark.
