Changing habitats in Cumbria (1 Viewer)

The planting of trees in the Cumbrian uplands continues apace.
Following Storm Desmond, one plan of action was to convert almost bare slopes from sheep farming to woodland.
This should help reduce the fast run-off of water during periods of heavy rain, to help avoid flooding down below.
I've witnessed the transformation of valley slopes in Borrowdale, the Howgills, and Bannisdale.
The latest schemes have included the hills above Glenridding and 10,000 trees planted in the Eden Valley.
Hopefully it will transform the wildlife in years to come.
An early change, I noticed this year, was Whinchats using the green plastic sapling protection units, as perching posts, when they arrived this Spring.
It made it a darn sight easier to find them.

Hopefully, a mosaic of various indigenous species including both deciduous and conifers. Has to be beneficial for wildlife of all sorts as well as flood alleviation. A great effort for the future.

Just looked it up on t'internet, looks to be the right thing, good luck to them.
