Painted Buntings (1 Viewer)

One of the things I like to do when traveling down I-95 through Georgia during the spring and summer is stopping by Harris Neck NWR to check out the painted buntings. This is one of my favorite spots for the bird. I realize not a big deal for you folks who live on the coast, but I live in the piedmont area, so Painted Buntings are far and few, if ever.

I was fortunate a couple of years ago to photograph some of the Painted Buntings from my vehicle while on wildlife drive ... Harris Neck National Wildlife Refuge.

I'm curious on the status of the refuge. I understand that some of the earlier land owners before the airfield are trying to get their property back. While I would hate to see the refuge dismembered, I also understand their plight.

Does anyone have any updated information about this?
