I wouldn't normally pick up a bird but today this one was on the ground flopping around drawing the attention of my dogs. I was afraid it was going to get killed. I picked it up and it sat quietly for quite a while. It was long enough for me to get a photo. After about five minutes it flew into a tree.

Hello Steven. Your hand lends scale to tiny size of those things. The heat from your hand might have aided in the little tykes quick recovery. Just a bit over a hundred miles north, and cooler air had them sitting in the sun at daybreak this morning, here. Looks like a juvie male, (neck gorget & five o'clock shadow). Should be few more headed your way shortly.
