Jinshitan, China shorebird ID

Hello Bird-watchers,

I saw another shorebird this morning that I am not sure of the ID. It was raining so I did not get very good pictures (plus I have a cheaper camera).

It may be a Red-necked Stint but appeared a bit bigger. There is a Kentish Plover in one photo for size comparison and I managed a poor photo of it flying for wing pattern.

Thanks for any help.

Dave Beeke

(Of interest, I also saw 5 or 6 Chinese Egrets today, also known as Swinhoe's Egrets).

Lovely egrets. Your shorebird is a summer-plumaged Sanderling

Cheers

Sanderling. They look quite strange in breeding plumage if you've only seen them in winter. The flight shot shows a broad, long wingbar, bigger than any other Calidris.
