I am interesting in knowing the name of this bracket Fungi. I've seen several times, so I am guessing it is common but would appreciate a name? Photo taking in UK in January...

Thanks,

Andrew

Hi Andrew

I think it's Chondrostereum purpureum.

As you say, pretty common this time of year on deciduous wood.

There's another purpley coloured bracket called Trichaptum abietinum present this time of year that can be mistaken for C.purpureum but it always grows on conifers and has pores on it's underside rather than a smooth surface.

Cheers,
Nick
