Skomer Puffin and Manx Shearwater Cams (1 Viewer)

Plenty of action at the Puffin colony at times.

The Manx Shearwater cam is in one of the burrows. They have a very recently hatched chick. Some lovely sounds coming from them at times. Very therapeutic watching even though there are long periods with nothing much happening.

Both cams are on this page. Scroll down for the shearwater.

There's also another cam here with a wider view -

Activity at the puffin colony is much reduced now with many of the young having already fledged though there are still a few in the burrows covered by this cam. They usually only come out at night though, although I've seen a couple come out for a look around and a bout of wing flapping in daylight.

This cam is also interesting at night as it gives good views of the shearwaters coming in to land and then shuffling around searching for their burrows.

Nice to watch a Puffin chick fledge shortly before 0400 this morning. After just a few seconds looking around it was suddenly gone into the darkness in a whirr of wings. Presumably it's far out to sea now with no one about to show it what to do next.

There are still a few Pufflings yet to fledge in the burrows covered by the cams, but whilst their breeding season is almost over, the Manxie chick is still just a ball of fluff although getting bigger and a bit more active now whilst the adults are away.
