Today, 9/24/02, in Barkhamsted, Connecticut- Backyard: What a gorgeous day for birding! Stayed on the mountain hoping for Hawk sightings but wasn't lucky in that department. I did see a Pileated Woodpecker, a female Common Yellowthroat, Northern Flicker, a female Baltimore Oriole, Common Raven(squawking up a storm as it flew over), Purple Finches, a nice Red-bellied Woodpecker, Northern Cardinals, Downy Woodpecker, and a few Turkey Vultures. Now, yesterday I had better luck with hawks. Saw a small "kettle" of 25-30 Broadwing Hawks appear out of nowhere and then disappear almost as fast. I saw a few Red Tails and a couple sightings of a Cooper's Hawk. What a difference a day can make. Good birding, everyone.
