Lesser Spotted Woodpecker (1 Viewer)

I had a monthly update from Bird Track recently that said there were a lot of Yellow-Browed Warblers coming in to the country. The best way to find them is to check out mixed Tit flocks, so on my usual day out in the Wyre Forest today, I was dutifully checking out every Tit flock I could find hoping to make all the Goldcrest's in to YB Warblers. No luck. But because I was looking at all the little birds in the tops of trees, I did find a Lesser Spotted Woodpecker. If I hadn't been so keen to find a Warbler, I never would have seen the Woody.

Examining roving tit flocks is known to be a good way to find Lesser Spotted Woodpeckers in winter. It's never worked for me, though!
