Florida Breeding Bird Atlas II (1 Viewer)

Andy Wraithmell

aka Limeybirder
The 2nd Florida Breeding Bird Atlas is currently taking place (2011-2016) throughout the state. Its mission is to document all of Florida's breeding birds. The project is being coordinated by the Florida Ornithological Society, the state coordinator is Rick West. The Florida Breeding Bird Atlas is a grid-based survey of the bird species breeding in Florida. The grid used for this project is based on US Geological Survey 7.5 minute topographic quadrangles (Quads) and each Quad is broken into six survey Blocks of 11 square miles.

It is my hope that this thread will provide a place for people to ask questions and to find out how to get involved. We need more birders throughout the state to get involved. Atlassing is a lot of fun and you will learn so much about Florida's birds from taking part.

There is a really exciting breeding bird atlas event taking place at the end of May in South Florida.

FOS/Breeding Bird Atlas Weekend - LaBelle FL, Friday, May 31 - Sunday June2, 2013.

We need help in Hendry and Glades counties as well as Charlotte Okeechobee, and Lee counties for the Breeding Bird Atlas. We are going to gather at the Port LaBelle Inn on SR 80 for a weekend of "blockbusting". You can participate one, two, or all three days. We invite anyone who wishes to have a blast birding for a reason to join us - no fees, no banquets, just a good time. If you have never done any atlasing and wish to join an experienced group to learn first hand, please come! The room rate at the Inn is about $69 a night single or double, including continental breakfast. You can join us for one two or three days - doesn't matter. Ask for Anita and for the birding rate. There are also slightly cheaper rooms in LaBelle about two miles away, but Port LaBelle is a very nice facility which is used for the "Big O" Birding Festival with a nice continental breakfast. For county listers, the photo shows you that the Hendry/Glades county line runs right through the parking lot! We had Snail Kites on the pond behind the hotel at the festival! We will pair inexperienced atlasers with an experienced team so you can learn how to do it! If you can come, email Florida Ornithological Society President Dave Goodwin at [email protected] and let him know which days you can attend.

Warning! This thread is more than 11 years ago old.
It's likely that no further discussion is required, in which case we recommend starting a new thread. If however you feel your response is required you can still do so.
