Campephilus sumptuosus - 18th/19th century woodpecker illustration (1 Viewer)

Picus sumptuosus Lesson 1830 [OD] is a new replacement name for Picus boie Temminck 1829 [OD] (with a coloured version of the same plate), which Lesson perceived as being preoccupied by Picus boiei Wagler 1827 [OD].
Picus boiei Wagler is the same as Phloecatses/Campephilus leucopogon.
Picus boie Temminck does not appear to match anything known, at first sight. Maybe a partly leucistic individual?

Thanks! Weird-looking thing in colour :eek!:

Think I'll leave it as 'Unidentified Picidae' at Commons, at least for the time being :t:
