Shield Bug (?) for ID (1 Viewer)

I photographed this strange-looking creature today, on leaves of a sycamore-type tree about 25 feet above ground level. My best guess is some kind of shield bug, but I could be wrong.

Could someone identify the species, or at least narrow it down?
