Griswold' Birding Year 2017 (2 Viewers)

Cracking day out round South Wales today. Kingfishers, some very showy Water Rails, Stonechats, Skylarks etc. etc.

On arriving at Fforest Fawr (Tongwynlais) a message flashed up that 6 of my target birds had turned up at Margam Park Church. Circa 30 miles closer to home - oops:-O

After about 30 mins I got chatting to another birder from Penarth. It turned out we both followed each other on Twitter and Matt turned out to be a very decent fella. Matt quickly picked up a flyover bird and then we located at least 3 others which were not easy in the canopy. Had superb scope views with Matt's scope so cheers for that Matt.:t:

Apologies for the junk photo but the camera did well to pick out anything at such a distance, through the tangle of branches.

Had a day off today and headed down to Penclacwydd for a couple of hours. Several members of Carms Bird Club were in the British Steel hide so it was good to catch up. Outside the hide was a Spoonbill, Peregrine, Greenshanks and species number 227- Merlin.

On the other side of the reserve it was good to see some Common Snipe from the Peter Scott hide and a very showy Water Rail feeding beneath the bird feeders:eek!: - thanks to a couple of birders heading in the opposite direction for the heads up on the Rail:t:
