Is it possible to ID this Scottish Bee (1 Viewer)

Thanks ever so much Aeshna. Sadly that was the best of the images I could get.
 
Not a great photo for ID but the pattern markings on the abdomen make me think it's probably Bombus pascuorum.

Perhaps, but i would tend towards Bombus campestris. The bottom line though is I would not name it with complete confidence from this single shot.
 
Thanks Ficedula - I knew it was a long shot.

Sadly I couldn't get any closer without climbing into a steep bank (to protect the birds on the other side). After this shot he flew and I lost him.

I'll just go with Scotch thistle and bumblebee then.

I would label it Cirsium vulgare (Spear Thistle) with Bombus ?campestris

Oh right!!! Thanks Ficedula. I'll have to learn the difference between that and the Scotch Thistle then.

Field Cuckoo-bee is a completely new one on me - how exciting.

Thanks for your time spent on this rubbish pic. I got more information from it than I expected.
