The Guardian Photographer of the Year Awards 2017 (1 Viewer)

I'm wonder what comments BF folks have on this set of avian photos. I think that they seem over photoshopped. However the Pelican by Lonel Onofras is stunning.

Some are, certainly, particularly the Pacific Black Duck which in my opinion doesn't work at all. Agree about the pelican, one of the best of a very impressive bunch. Also the running tern chick--wow!

Maybe there should be a new category called Computer Graphics? Photographers love to use computers - so let them compete in that field.

Excellent idea. Shame to mix minimally post-processed "field" images and computer-enhanced "creations" in this helter-skelter fashion. That said, the line between the 2 genres won't always be easy to draw.

Great Egret was my favorite.

Isn't that the same as the "Creative imagery award" which was the Pacific Black Duck shot?

No idea. Creative imagery I would understand as novel view at the bird, e.g. only pattern of feathers, not creating new things on image using Photoshop?

BTW, it is worth looking at the surprisingly low profile Glanzlichter. Aus Deutschland. No Englische Version. Komische 1990's Website. Und Super Fotos:

I think photos match the better known British competitions. I loved e.g. the category sleeping animals from 2017:
