Found this on my neighbours land - reminds me of Japanese Knotweed - any ideas?

It reminds you of it because it is related but it isn't Japanese Knotweed. Looks like Persicaria capitata with those ornamental leaf markings. Certainly nothing to get worked up over.

Hope it doesn’t spread like it’s cousin

Going to keep an eye on it and see what the flowers look like -if it’s Persicaria capitata apparently it has a strong smell of urine! Something to look forward to!

Thanks for putting me on the right track aeshna - I think I’ve found it - looks like Persicaria microcephala.

Yes that's it- hadn't seen this one before. Thought capitata looked a bit different but didn't know any others with ornate foliage markings like this. Glad you got it sorted.
