How many Trogons and Quetzals have you seen? (1 Viewer)

aka The Person Named Above
As the " How many........." threads seem to have taken a summer break I thought I'd resurect them with the ultimate tropical birds ( excluding Pittas and BoP of course ). Trogons are found on three ( four ) continents and are fairly easy to see, so there should be some good lists turning up.
Heres mine :-

1 Respendant Quetzal - Costa Rica
2 Crested Quetzal - Venezuela
3 White-tipped Quetzal - Venezuela
4 Golden-headed Quetzal - Venezuela
5 Pavonine Quetzal - Venezuela
6 Cuban Trogon - Cuba
7 Hispaniolan Trogon - Dom. Rep.
8 Slaty-tailed Trogon - Costa Rica
9 Lattice-tailed Trogon - Costa Rica
10 Baird's Trogon - Costa Rica
11 White-tailed Trogon - Trinidad
12 Black-headed Trogon - Costa Rica
13 Elegant Trogon - Costa Rica
14 Collared Trogon - Costa Rica, Venezuela, Trinidad
15 Orange-bellied Trogon - Costa Rica
16 Masked Trogon - Venezuela
17 Black-throated Trogon - Costa Rica, Venezuela
18 Violaceous Trogon - Costa Rica, Venezuela, Trinidad
19 Narina's Trogon - Gabon, E. Africa
20 Bare-cheeked Trogon - Gabon
21 Bar-tailed Trogon - Gabon, Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania
22 Blue-tailed Trogon - Sumatra, Java
23 Red-naped Trogon - Pen. Malaya, Sumatra, Borneo
24 Diard's Trogon - Pen. Malaya, Sumatra, Borneo
25 Whitehead's Trogon - Borneo
26 Cinnamon-rumped Trogon - Pen. Malaya, Sumatra, Borneo
27 Scarlet-rumped Trogon - Pen. Malaya, Sumatra
28 Orange-breasted Trogon - Vietnam, Pen. Malaya, Sumatra, Java
29 Red-headed Trogon - Nepal > Sumatra
30 Ward's Trogon - Vietnam

I've left Resplendant Quetzal as it is for a couple of reasons, there doesn't seem to be agreement on the vernacular names for the splits and ....... it gives some clever bugger the oportunity to say ' Which xxxxxxxxxx do you mean" ;)

The only one is the Elegant, Huachuca Mountains of Southeast Arizona. Might have a shot at the Eared as they have been seen here - but rarely.

Seven I think....

missed Elegant in Arizona a few years ago, so caught up on a few in Trinidad and Costa Rica.

I'm told that Violaceous is now called Gartered?

I think John Hornbuckle has seen them all.

I've seen all bar 9, should get a new Quetzal (White-tipped) at Christmas....

cheers, a

Thanks Jon and Larry, so it's now ............

31 Gartered Trogon - Costa Rica

I think I'll leave the Blue-tailed as it is ................... for now ;)

Chris

Hor Kee, next time you're on the mountain, try the Kiau View Trail or down the river from just above Timophon Gate. That's where I've had quite a bit of luck with Whitehead's.
