Coastal Oregon in August

It may be true that August is rarely the best month for birding but it's what I've got! I will be in Oregon travelling north to south along the coast from Cannon Beach to Newport. I'm always keen to see and photograph shorebirds and seabirds . Am I right in thinking it would be a bit early for shorebirds eg Sanderling and other peeps? I remember being on the west coast of Vancouver Island a few years back and there were very few waders but a few eg Western Sandpipers were returning on the other side of the island.

Any info would be most appreciated.
Many thanks,

Rosie.

Check out the Shore Bird festival in Charleston. It's further south than your plans, but may be of interest.

Many thanks for your response and the link. I was beginning to think there were no birders in Oregon!

Rosie,

Here's an eBird barchart for the three counties you'll be travelling limited to species reported in August. Looks like there should be a good variety of shorebirds around.

http://ebird.org/ebird/GuideMe?src=c...0&continue.y=7

Click on the "map" icon next to a species name, and then click on individual markers if you want more info about sightings of a particular species.

Hope this helps,
Jim

Here's a couple of birding guides you can look through as well:
