White-nose syndrome fungus found in California
The fungus Pseudogymnoascus destructans was found in northern California. I heard that it takes 1-3 years from the time of detection to first showing up in bat populations.
If it spreads to the central valley, it could be a very big deal for agriculture, as bats are a large pest control components.
