Lark? id Lake Sibaya KZN ZA june 2019 (1 Viewer)

Well, actually, Brian, I was the first person to say 'Rufous-naped Lark' (#6) although, I admit, after I had confidently suggested Sabota.

So, I did eventually get the right species, just not necessarily in the right order...

Hi mac

Sorry about that! ;) An interesting discussion nevertheless.

The best reference for the larks is the Chamberlain's LBJs by Faansie Peacock. Here are some images of R-n L by him on his website - https://faansiepeacock.com/portfolio-items/rufous-naped-lark/

Look at the rufous in lesser and marginal coverts, too.
Cheers

Looks like you are in a region of tropical storms just like me. Best of wishes to you as well.
